Our Story

Heather started working in child care after graduating from Belleville's Loyalist College in 1989 with a diploma in Early Childhood Education at the Guelph Y's. She left the Y in 1992 with the birth of her first child, Victoria and began home based daycare. In 2000 after the birth of two more children, Adam in 1996 and Rachelle in 1998, Heather began teaching Music for Young Children from her home in Guelph. She left Music for Young Children in 2004 to return to her first love, child care.

In 2006 came the desire to build and run her own daycare center so the search started for a suitable property in the City of Guelph. In 2008 the property at 1416 Gordon Street South was found and construction on the 2-story purpose built building that is now home to Kids Come First Child Care Center was started. Kids Come First Child Care Center opened to its first children in early 2009. Heather was also joined by her parents Willard and Karen Martin. Now both retired from their careers Karen works part-time helping Heather in the office while Willard works to maintain and update the facilities to keep them in top condition.
